FAQ's
Do I need my own guitar? Without your own guitar you can't practice, and it's really when you practice that you learn. So yes, you do need your own guitar, but if you don't yet have one don't worry. You can get decent guitars quite cheaply these days. I'll even come and help you pick one.
Do I need to buy any books? I have a lot of my own teaching material so it's not neccessary to buy any books, but having said that there are a few good books that I recommend for different styles
Do you teach all styles? Yes, though there are certain styles that I like to teach more than others. Every style of music has it's own language and set of techniques. If you're looking to learn a particular style, please give me a call or send an email so we can discuss it.
Do you teach all levels? Yes
How about all ages? Yes, I've had students from age 5 to 75
Do you offer a free trial lesson? Yes. In the trial lesson I will discuss your needs and tastes, then I'll make sure you have something to take away and practice.
At what age can children start to play? I still don't know the answer to this one. I've had success with children as young as 5, but I have to be honest and say that it hasn't always worked. It really depends on the child. If your child is asking to play guitar though, then I would say it is definitely worth giving it a go. I am conscious that at that age it can be easy to put a child off, so my focus with younger children is to make the lessons as fun as possible, whilst still giving them something to practice.
Do you teach theory, sight reading and aural skills? Yes I do, and I enjoy doing so
Do you prepare students for grades? Yes. If you want to study for grades I am happy to help you prepare for grades with any syllabus. I usually reccommend Trinity or ABRSM, but I also enjoy teaching from the Rockschool syllabus.
Can I learn the songs I want to learn? Yes, but we may have to do a bit of groundwork first
